What is it that church should offer to a Christian? I mean in our society where people live by the “what is in it for me”, what does that mean for those in church. I mean I know that for the sinner there has to be an attraction, and there has to be programs that cater to their needs. But what about to those that are saved and those that should be mature in the Lord. Does the church owe them anything and if so then what?
According to Jesus we the Christians are suppose to be going about working and doing the will of God. We are suppose to be carrying out the work that God has placed within us. The generation of my father was one that understood commitment and loyalty to the cause that was in their lives, but I afraid that we have forgotten that in todays “if I don’t get something then I go and find it somewhere else”. I mean for some reason the church has become a place where it is all about the individual and not about the common good that will reach a community or a city. It is about making people feel good about themselves and making them happy. The truth is that God’s main concern is not about making us happy but making us holy. As Christians it is not about our needs but doing the work of God so that we can meet the needs of others. As Chrisitians our feelings have to be secondary to the good of the church. President Kennedy in a moment of great stress made the famous statement, “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”. In this moment of great stress I believe that we can make the same statement concerning the church, “ask not what your church can do for you but what you can do for your church”.
