Throughout the New Testament we see where people referred to Jesus as master. This was a term used for Rabbis of the day, and it demonstrated that to the world Jesus was seen as a Rabbi or teacher. The Rabbi was seen a a great person by his students. They would learn from him and do anything for him. One of the prayers that Jewish students would make is “Today may I walk in the dust of my Rabbi”. This showed the students desire to walk as close to the Rabbi as they possibly could and to learn as much as they could. The Rabbi was the example that they wanted to be.
As Christians our example is Jesus, He is everything that we want to be and it should be our desire to walk so close to Him that the dust coming off of His feet covers us as we walk behind Him. This is a place of intimacy and it should be the desire of each one of us to walk that close to Jesus.
