Help Wanted

The other day I was walking into a business and notice a help wanted sign in the window. I thought that I had been seeing them more and more, so I began to look every time I went into a place over the next few days. I noticed that in almost every place I went, they were trying to hire people to work. From restaurants, part stores, and even some factories around town, everyone is looking for someone to come and work. So, I began to think about why so many places needed employees and what this all meant? Here are some thoughts I have.

Now, let me just give you a little bit of my background, so you are not thinking I am just some pastor talking about something I know little about the business arena. The truth is I did not start off pastoring, but I started working in the retail business. I have been working since I was fifteen years old and full-time since I was eighteen. I have managed a large retail store, been over hundreds of employees, and even done a lot of hiring and firing over the years. I know what it is like to be an employee making minimum wage to a manager looking to find good people. Now I want to advise anyone out there who does not have a job right now and maybe thinking about what I should do in this uncertain time.

Go to work before it is too late

Now I know some of you are getting checks from the government. With unemployment and the stimulus check, you may be making more than you would if you were working a job right now, and so you might ask, why should I go to work. The answer is that the money you are getting from the government is not going to last. Sooner or later, that money is going to dry up, and then you will have nothing. You say then I will go to work. The problem with that is that all the available jobs will be gone, and you will be left with having to get any job you can find or, worse, not finding a job at all. Right now, you have the pick of jobs that you want, and you can go and find something that is right for you. With so many people looking to hire, you have options, and those options are not going to last. So, you need to go out and get to work now so that you can find the job that is right for you and maybe even one that you can work at for a long time.

Now is the time to impress

With so many employers looking for help right now, it is time for you to shine. By going to work and working hard, you are going to make an impression on management. They are going to see a go-getter that helped them out in times of trouble. You might start at the bottom, but you will not stay there long with the workforce being so low. Employers are doing to promote hard-working individuals because they want to keep them. Employers know those good employees are hard to come by, and showing them that you are a good employee will cause them to do everything they can to keep you on their team. This is the time for you to impress the boss and show that you are an invaluable member of the team.

Keep what you have

By going to work in these times you can keep the money that you have. You will not go through all the money that has been given to you but can save some by creating a stable cash flow in your life. Working a job enables you to earn more money in the long run, enabling you to have more money. Rather than blow the money that you have gotten with the stimulus check, you can save it for a time when you will need it. Also, with jobs being in such supply, you can negotiate for more money, better hours, or benefits as employers are offering more of these in order to attract quality workers. In this job market, you have power and options.

Working empowers you

When you are working, you are empowering yourself to be self-sufficient. Throughout history, we have seen where the government system keeps people dependent on the government—giving just enough to families. When you work, then you empower yourself to reach higher goals in your life. You are not limited to just enough, but you can reach beyond the status-quote and achieve more than you ever thought you would. Now is the time to become empowered and begin to do more than you ever thought you could. There is no better feeling than getting a paycheck, knowing that your hard work earned that money.

Right now is time for you to shine and make a better future for you and your family by working. So go out there, do some research and find the right job for you.
