James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and God will draw near to you.”
James’s statement is one of the most powerful statements in the Word of God. James was the brother of Jesus who did not believe in Jesus until after the resurrection when Jesus revealed Himself to His brother. James makes this statement, and he says, ” YOU ARE AS CLOSE TO GOD AS YOU CHOSE TO BE. In other words, you are the one that determines how close to God you are, and you determine how much of Him you allow into your life. We look at people doing mighty things for God and believe that God has given them some special power that is not available to us, but the truth is that they have a closeness to God because they choose to be close to Him.
Today you have a choice. You can choose to live in a shallow walk with God where there is very little power, very little change, and very little effectiveness. But you can choose to draw closer to God and walk in a deeper presence of God and get closer to Him than you have ever been before. You can live in the presence of God, where there is power, and there is change. God will come as close to you as your choice to all Him. James said in verse five that “the Spirit yearns jealously.” God longs to be close to us, but we must come near him. So today, you have a choice. Let us all draw near to God.
